Rewatched THE LAST KINGDOM...FANTASTIC 5 Season series.
If you have not seen THE LAST KINGDOM, I highly recommend this historical fiction series set in the latter 9th Century England before it was a United England. Cornwallin, Wessex, East Anglia, Mercia, and North Thumbria, made up what became England.
At the center of the series is Uhtred of Bebbenburg. As a young Saxon boy, Uhtred, witnesses the death of his father at the hands of invading Danes. Sold into slavery by his Uncle, young Uhtred is raised by Danes along with a young girl named Brida.
As Uhtred becomes a young man, his Danish home is destroyed by a rival Dane clan. Uhtred finds himself later at the center of Wessex at Winchester, where he begins a tumultuous relationship with King Alfred. Uhtred figures in Alfred's plan for a United England. Throughout the series, we see Uhtred mature, find love, experience loss, yet determined to fulfill his destiny regardless of the cost.
Beautifully filmed and scripted, THE LAST KINGDOM takes the viewer on an unforgettable ride with its main plot and subplots to keep the viewer interested in what happens next. Based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, who can trace his family lineage back to the Saxon/Dane era. I will have to read that series when I finish some books I have started.
Netflix has announced to TLK fan base that there will be a 2 hour feature film coming to finish Uhtred's story titled The 7 Kings Must Die. I cannot wait.

(7,603 posts)years ago and unwittingly began in the middle. Had to go back and restart after I decided I wanted to get the whole story. Start at the beginning if you can. If you are a Uhtred fan the novels add a lot, especially as the protagonist ages. I guess that is normal for adaptations. Anyway, just an observation.
