Great escape on Netflix: Third season of Umbrella Academy.

What is it about these kookie characters with superpowers that make this show so contagious? Season Three of Umbrella Academy comes out in a big way. Elliot Page is given top billing in the credits, and his transition to his true self, which mimics real life, is dealt with in a way that will make you cry.

In Season 3 you see the old Umbrella character's arcs continue to grow, in their own dysfunctional ways, and new characters emerge to challenge them. Old characters, once thought defunct, also get juicy spots.

And the best part, the show does a satisfying job of completing the adventure of the season, and leaving us with a huge cliffhanger for Season 4. Expect to see the curtains open to provide clues to how the students of the academy received their powers.

The cinematography and art deco production design is so imaginative and beautiful; the story and dialog is just as fresh and entertaining.

The production budget has to be really high. Producers have planned for a fourth and final season though Netflix has yet to give approval. Given their financial hardships, I can understand the delay. Hope to see a final season.

If I were to I might add some sweetener like "series this good make me renew my Netflix subscription." Like everything else in the corporate world, it comes down to money.
