I just started watching Sandman on Netflix (no spoilers)

Let me say up front, I never read the graphic novels.

This is some really cool stuff, I've only watched episode one but I am hooked. Some great cinematography going on here, very atmospheric and fitting for the mood they are going for... It really drew me in. The story is real interesting. They do a quick setup on some of the players and set-up, then dive right in. It has me wanting to really savor this one so I think I'll only be doing an episode a day but... I could binge right through this, it has me that pulled in.

Good stuff

I have heard a lot of good things about The Sandman.

Rewatching Knightfall about the Knights Templar in France at the end of the 13th century. I missed a lot of detail the first time I watched it a few years ago.

I binged it in a day and ended up rewatching it. I read the comics back in the day, so the story wasn’t new. I absolutely loved episode 6!

I've been waiting for this FOREVER. And it lives up to my expectations, and even improves a few things. Watching one of the episodes, I found a plot hole from the comics that I'd never noticed (and I know the comics backwards and forwards) - and which they'd fixed in the TV show.
The casting is SO GOOD - Charles Dance in the first ep., Patton Oswalt, David Thewlis and Stephen Fry coming up. And I can't say enough about Kirby Howell-Baptiste.

I'm on ep 6 and while it has some breathtaking CGI effects, a ton of them in the 1st ep, it is not very well written, with a lot of cliche dialogue, forced conflict and wooly-minded philosophizing. I find the lead character profoundly uninteresting and ep 5, set mostly in a diner, is excruciatingly awkward and the characters are poorly motivated. It took me a couple of sittings to get through it. But I'll keep watching for the effects and to see if maybe this all makes some sort of narrative sense by the end.

on edit: ep 6 more than makes up for ep 5. I guess these are going to be hit or miss.

episode 5 was one of the things that made the comic so good. It seems tangential, but ties back in to the overall arch in the end. The comic was a lot more of a narrative free flow than the show (I'm only on episode 6 at this point), but I'm glad they are doing some of the things that the comic broke new ground with.

As to you other arguments, I guess it takes all kind. I think Gaimen is one of the best writers presently at world building and that comes through, in my mind, in this show. His ability to weave a mythology is incredible.
