Netflix & Amazon Prime: Anyone else here going though old shows you may not have watched regularly?

So, I went through the biggies: Game of Thrones, Deadwood, Sopranos, a lot of British and International tv, but lately, I just want something diversionary with a laugh or two to get my mind off the "obvious" and deliver a little "comfort food".

So, now, I've worked my way through Frasier and am now on Cheers... I watched the former pretty regularly, but it has been so many years since I watched Cheers. I'd forgotten how long Shelley Long was on that show and in fact how many years it was on in general--incredible. Anyone else ever notice that the theme song (Where Everybody Knows Your Name) was basically recorded fresh for nearly every episode? It really never sounds the same.

Ok, my deep thoughts for the day.

1. We watch very little TV, but lately it's been NCIS.

2. I never watched that show in its very long run, despite liking Mark Harmon...

I never could get past the premise of a Navy criminal intelligence unit seemingly taking over law enforcement everywhere in the country and across the world... I guess I watch plenty of other shows that are rather contrived in their premise, so maybe I should give it a try... Obviously, it is popular.

10. Part of the popularity is the characters.

A lot of characters in cop shows and movies are two-dimensional: you only see them when they're being cops. So the shows and movies are about cops being cops, period. These characters have personal lives, warts, problems, quirks, faults, rivalries, friendships, families, and everything else that makes them "human." And there are ongoing in-jokes and references. So, after watching the show for a while, you're not just watching a cop show, you're watching a group of believable, three-dimensional characters that you know and like, going about their work and their personal lives.

3. The Office

and The Sopranos.

Been binge watching The Sopranos before my Prime free trial expires. I'm very sleepy at work today.

4. Everybody BUT Frasier ... is what makes it great ... Esp. Pop (RIP) and Niles

But Daphne and Roz (sp?) are great too.

Frasier is a friggin' pompous a-hole to a fault. And since I don't like Kelsey Grammer, I dislike him on the show even more.

It was very really well-written and funny though (though arguably it relies WAAAAY too much on everybody being dishonest w/each other, and then dealing with the fallout of that dishonesty).

GoT is on Amazon Prime? I thought it was HBO exclusive ... huh ... is it up thru season 6? Will they also be showing Season 7 'live'?

5. Sorry GOT is only available through Prime with an HBO "add-on"...

I think there may be a free trial though.

7. The only series we watch is Mrs. Maisel.

We discovered it a few weeks before the new season, so we kinda binge watched the first season. Now, we’re taking our time. We’re actually not big TV people.

Lately, we’ve been bingeing on music documentaries on Prime, Youtube, and Netflix. There’s some great stuff out there!

8. Yeah... Like another poster, I watch on my ipad on the stationary bike or treadmill mostly...

Though I will usually watch a half hour or so before falling asleep. It helps with the stress of the day's news, frankly...

I loved Mrs. Maisel too. Great!

11. Binge watching House

Watching the news make me too depressed so I watch Netflix and Prime. Since I am a retired nurse, Call the Midwife is my all time favorite can't beat the shows on PBS.

14. I re-watched Frasier a few years ago when

I was staining my staircase. My daughter and I just finished Boston Legal. I had watched some of it when it was on TV so when I saw it was on Hulu I figured I would try it again. I prefer older shows because a lot of times I'll turn them on while I'm doing other things and I can listen to them without getting too into it.

15. Yeah, that's why I like the old shows too... Easy to multitask, yet can go back if you want

to see what you missed.

I know Kelsey Grammer is an ass in real life but the cast on Frasier was SOOOO good and I find myself laughing at nearly every episode. It was a great show.

18. The Office, Parks and Rec lots

I pretty much stopped watching entertainment shows after Seinfeld so I am catching up on ones that I missed. Lot of others that I can't remember now.

19. I totally missed Mr. Robot on USA

was happy to find in on Prime. Alas, I have finished and can't wait for Season 4. (which sadly will be the last)

I have Parks & Rec and Sherlock in my backlog. And, just added Monty Python's Flying Circus. Now that one's a trip back to the good ole days!
