Related: About this forumSugar and sugar foods are ...."ADDICTIVE." AND, they kill lots of people.
I think sugar is more addictive than booze. (in my opinion)........& I have had that addiction for over
70 years. We need to discuss this again.

(136,071 posts)making you want to keep eating and craving sugary items.
A study in the January 2 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association looked at brain imaging scans after people ate one of two types of simple sugarsfructose or glucose. Researchers found that fructose, but not glucose, altered blood flow in areas of the brain that stimulate appetite. "When we take in high-fructose corn syrup and fructose, it stimulates appetite and causes us to eat more," Dr. Hauser says. So you want to especially limit foods containing high-fructose corn syrup (such as sodas and sweetened cereals).

(2,000 posts)White sugar isn't much better.
I have high blood sugar and really watch my sugar intake, and carbs.
But I still indulge myself! I also often restrict myself!
I agree, sugar is addictive.

You know whats next. Next time at the grocery store just check out the ingredients and see.
Yes High fructose corn syrup is a killer and it's in everything..Carbs with high glycemic index will spike your blood sugar. Too much fat will clog your arteries. Too much salt will spike blood pressure..
It's like the Food industry does not talk to the medical industry and visa versa b/c between the two of them they are making a $ killing $....killing us.
If people could stop the SOS maybe just maybe would not get so sick..
That would put a dent in the Medical Industrial Complex and we can't have that now can we..
Got to keep the share prices up and the investors happy. Follow the money...
Ok I'm off the soap box now.. This shit drives me nutz..

(24,145 posts)I swore off of it in 2022, and lost 30 lbs. Now, its all back again. I was pretty skinny and fit for most of my life, but I guess getting older flicked the switch. I make really good xmas cookies..... and pies. And cakes.
People that tell you to eat fruit instead are kidding you. The only fruit that stands a chance is watermelon.
Yes, I would like to hear others' experience. Thank you, StuartG.

(24,002 posts)I have a bowl of ice cream at night as a reward for not drinking. While it's not great for you, it's a heck of a lot better than booze.

....I was at the doctors office two days ago and weighed 152..with my clothes and shoes on.
.....IF I DIDN'T GO TO OVEREATERS ANONYMOUS, I WOULD BE DEAD AND NOT WRITING THESE WORDS. I am 78 years old.
(I lost the weight when I was 44 years old in 1980..and kept it off most of the time)
.............and willing to work the program and work the steps,.........SAVED MY LIFE..............oh...ONE THING MORE:
..........I AM NOT PERFECT..BUT CLOSE TO PERFECT. (I RARELY OVEREAT ANY MORE..JUST ENOUGH TO STAY AT THE LOW 150s ..and pray often...
I think about my sponsor all the time, and call him often...(and today I went for two walks (20 minutes each about 1 1/2 miles).
..............Tomorrow, he is going with me to the doctor's office for major surgery...... (if I didn't lose the weight, I wouldn't be eligible for
.............the life-saving surgery.)
...............And I guess that is what is called ...."Reovery"......
