Tomorrow is the big day. (UPDATE)

Last edited Sat May 17, 2014, 05:36 PM - Edit history (1)

At the hotel right now. Already pre-admitted. I go to the surgical floor in the AM at 5:30 for a roll-in time of 7:30.

3 days in ICU then 2-3 days on the floor after that.

I'll know more after I become aware. I am going to be sedated the first day in ICU.

Thank you all!

I'm a home.

Got everything in my cheek with clear margins.

Tumor was smaller than anticipated.

Will get the results for the neck biopsy next week.

No major skin grafting and no vein resection.

I was hitting the milestones early (swallowing, taking meds by mouth, tolerating food, using the bathroom) so they let me come home a day early.

My neck incision was already itching - a very good sign.

My neck looks like something from a horror movie though.

Like I went through barbed wired was how my brother-in-law described It.

Thank you for all your well wishes and good thoughts!!

Meant a lot to me!!!!

I fear I'm going to get bad news (on the neck) since things went better than expected.

Is that weird or what? One thing went well..so something else will go wrong. Is how my mind is working right now.

The soft mechanical diet is bland but I couldn't eat anything else right now.

Mouth is still too tightly packed....and it hurts to eat.

Be ready for my swim suit soon. (laughing at myself)

Pain meds are a blessing.

if you noticed I was bit reserved about any news yet to come ... guess I've been trained. That being said it sounds like you had wonderful results so far ... just take it one day at a time.

And a more conventional diet is not so bad!

Sending positive thoughts

a patch inside my mouth to see the graft.

Wound healing well and graft looked "beautiful".

I go back on Thursday for the neck results.

So, we'll see.

When you think you are OK, you aren't - that just means you need another week or two of R&R. Get PLENTY of rest and let your body recover from this. Rejoice in the milestones, but please, please don't push it. You need time to heal, more than you might realize.

I've already been bitten in the ass by thinking I was doing better than I really was. I've learned that just because the doctors say I'm doing better than expected doesn't mean I can do everything I used to could do.

I've got a long way yet to go. It's been hard though. I hate being helpless.

Tomorrow I find out if I'll need radiation or not.
