Related: About this forumPositive energy and helping us hold a vigil for my husbands surgery
My husband is a several years long reader and promoter of DU but doesnt post because his first language is Austrian/German and he feels he cant express himself in written English well enough to take your time. He is a strong progressive, kind and generous human being, extremely healthy mostly vegetarian eater, meditator and the love of my long life. We married last year after a loving 20 year courtship thinking paperwork didnt matter. We proved ourselves wrong. It does.
Due to him having a case of Non-Hodgkin Follicular Lymphoma for the last 5 years we live life grateful for every day. Its a slow growth cancer with a 15 to 20 year prognosis thats been monitored every six months with blood tests and yearly PET scan. Being in our 70s we really couldnt have asked for much more anyway. But during this years tests about 8 weeks ago they discovered a different cancer, an isolated small cell tumor in his left lung. While waiting for an appointment with the Pulmonary Oncologist my husband had a faint/fall that left him dazed and confused. After a couple of days I realized his behavior was growing more abnormal and convinced him to go to the ER as I thought he might have received a concussion when he fell. Surprisingly and terrifyingly they discovered a tumor in his brain that they think metastasized from the lung. Its in the left occipital lobe near the visual cortex.
So making this too long story short, we are at City of Hope awaiting neurosurgery on Friday with all its inherent risks/rewards. The competence, compassion, and nurturing of this place is amazing and if you have to go through something like this, it is worth whatever it takes to come here.
Please send healing thoughts and positive energy to this special man who has freely shared his talent for fixing or building anything, and has apprenticed many in the field of alternative energies for 40 years. We thank our DU family for your passionate adherence to the highest humanity has to offer.

(109 posts)I read the postings here multiple times a day and felt like I didnt deserve to comment cause I didnt have long term status. But things happened that showed me this week that the compassion of strangers could add more to my life than the silence of fear.

(56,421 posts)And, if all goes as hoped for, tell him he is perfectly welcome to post here in German!!
There are some of us here on DU that are fluent in German, including me, and if his written English isnt up to the task, most of us will be understanding. We have a couple of regular posters whose native language is obviously not English. I sometimes have a hard time trying to figure out what they are trying to say, but I would never tell them to stop posting.
