Covid deaths in chronically ill people should not be treated as a silver lining

Covid deaths in chronically ill people should not be treated as a silver lining

I'm not trying to be anti-CDC but as someone who has emphysema and heart problems I have been avoiding ppl for 2 years now and have received criticism from folks I used to consider my friends,,,, my "joke" all along has been "if I die from COVID, they'll say I had underlying conditions anyway,,,,"

I am still avoiding ppl.

on edit: I don't know how to put the link behind other words,,,,

beyond some family and a limited group of friends. Covid and underlying health concerns are the predominate reason, but 40+years of dealing with the public working in the Retail Sector is another. One learns to just avoid the general public as they are less than "charming" most of the time.

Hang in there, Karen!

I've been isolating & only going out for food &, when necessary, home & auto repair / maintenance purchases.

And, I've been in N95s for 2 years.

Personally, I don't pay any attention to the CDC. I watch internatiinal trends & I read Dr Eric Ding's twitter. He is a Harvard epidemioligist & has been WAY ahead of public health agencies &, in my opinion, has been 100% (or nearly so) accurate in his reporting.

This approach has served me well, thus far. For example, when I read about what was happening in China 2 yrs ago, I loaded up on toilet paper & N95s before they were a thing here in the States.

Your life is no less important than those of people who do not have chronic health concerns!

Dr. Ding's link, if you care to take a look:

Dr. Ding retweets lots of great info from other respected medical professionals. (And, contrary to haters, I have never seen him selling anything whatsoever.)

Glad you found the info useful. So difficult to grapple with this nightmare with little info & perhaps less understanding of it all. (Not a doc ir nurse here.)

Like you we've been planning ahead too,,,, before the Omicron surge we bought food for 6 weeks,,,, and since the easing up of the initial toilet paper shortage, I have and maintain about a 6 month stash of it,,,, I have already warned my children they will inherit 6 months worth

Same here with toilet paper, down to "you will inherit..."

I can only imagine what goes through kids' minds when they are informed.

I shop about once every 3 wks. I've found getting Aldi bagged spinach lasts a long time for making salads, for instance, much longer than lettuce or cabbage.

So, with a bit of creative thinking, we can avoid the maskholes & continue to live vicariously here on DU. (Kudos to the photography group for sharing!)

I've also found 3-4 of aldis cold brew mocha iced coffee lasts me, if I limit my inrake to 12 oz / day, my new "diet (appetite suppressant.) Het, don't laugh, my jeans fit again!

The way to make the link work is to put text after the | and then close it off with a square end bracket.

In other words:

Append Covid deaths in chronically ill people should not be treated as a silver lining ] to what you have and you will end up with this:
