Hospital early release

After three days surgery and recovery I got back home.
Doctors did a good job reconnecting the colon to the
rectum.
Everything hurts right now but that's because I have
no pain meds.
The procedure leaves a large open hole next to my
belly button where the stoma was.
I had become fond of that shitty thing sticking out.

The worst should be over now as the colon has to relearn it's job.

whereas there are nasty things circulating around in hospitals. Sending people home to convalesce might have been a money grab by insurance companies, but it did people more good than staying in the hospital for a week or two postop did.

Of cours, you don't realize how bad off you are until you get through your front door.

You've had major surgery and need pain control. If you have a primary care doctor, call and explain the situation. Surgeons never prescribe drugs to go home with the patient these days, thank the DEA for that. You might need to see the PCP. If you don't have a PCP, then you need to go to urgent care or even the ER.

You probably won't need the drugs for long, toughing it out on Tulenol as soon as you can. However, in the beginning after a bid deal surgery like yous, the pain meds help you do things like walk around a bit and make it to the bathroom on time. By a week postop, you should be down to 1-2 pills a day, meaning it's time to get off them.

I can see why you'd miss the bag, colostomy bags mean never being caught short in the supermarket.

That's exactly how things went and how I feel.
It seems like you've done this.

I will have Percocet on Monday and the packing
bandages material.
