I never heard of the 2/5 fast before your post. I probably should have looked it up.

During the entire month of January, I fasted Monday - Friday, drinking only 3 Atkins Low-Carb Shakes per day, supplemented by tons of water, sugar-free gatorade, and tomato juice. A tiny sip of milk once in a while to treat a migraine. Milk is supposed to have the proper balance of sodium and potassium to help with migraines, but it also has carbs.

Then I ate very small meals of mostly vegetables, with a little seafood thrown in, on Saturdays and Sundays.

Starting February 1, I added very small, low-carb meals for dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A couple hard-boiled eggs, or an avocado. And I don't deprive myself of a beer or two or a glass of wine once in a while. Gotta' have some fun!

Besides saving some $$$, I have also found that it saves an incredible amount of time. No meal prep!

I have come to the conclusion that I can't think of this as a 'diet', but rather a way of life from here forward. If I go back to eating normal meals I know I will put some poundage on again. And I feel great! I have tried fasting on and off for several years and I'm always amazed at how much more energy I have after a day or two.

Most sites suggest up to 400 cals/day.
I liked the idea that it allows a build up of white blood cells to fight infection and cancer. Also use up glucose for sugar.
Most of the studies were tied to longer life. I'm not real worried about that, already out lived many friends, just want to feel good or better for the rest.

I don't usually crave anything, but when I do, it's something salty. And my blood pressure is usually pretty low, so I can safely add salt to some dishes. Broth is a great idea!

My doctor recommended it. I've lost about 10 pounds in that time.

I'm also hard of hearing and have hearing aids, but the diet hasn't helped that. Just to keep it on topic.

Wrong topic, but while we are on it, i did the 5:2 a few years ago and it was very successful. Now i have for thr last 2 months just set up a spread sheet to monitor calorie and fat intake stick to about 1500 calories and averaging 60g fat intake and lost a stone. i am a 66 year old male and feel a whole lot better for it.
