Related: About this forumGoing to the gym or not during the pandemic?
I have a gym membership, but because of sleep issues and now Covid as well as my age (I'm 70), I'm staying away. I really don't want to but I don't feel it's safe.
But how about you all? I'm creating a poll and splitting the choices up between 60 and under and those 60 and over. I also added a response for those that work out at home. Thanks for taking the time.

(106,488 posts)Getting outside--even in 20F weather and snow-- is still so much more life-affirming and refreshing than being inside anywhere to me. That has been my preference for years, but especially in the age of COVID. And my very energetic, cold weather loving pup agrees
I've had gym memberships over the years, but I think that I am unlikely to do so again in the near future.

(12,786 posts)Its just about paid for itself already. So no going back. I like being able to workout any time I like.

(11,287 posts)I belong to Planet Fitness, where they have a "crowd meter" on their app. We tend to go during the afternoons, when it's less crowded. But, I haven't been to Club Pilates since the middle of December.

(10,561 posts)Although my gym has signs asking people to wear masks (I'm in California), some don't or don't know how to wear them. And the gym wasn't enforcing them last time I went. I haven't been there lately though.

(697 posts)crossfit every morning. It's the only exercise program I've ever been able to stick with, so I keep going no matter what. Most of us early morning members are vaxxed at least.

(4,622 posts)NO way would I go near one now, even if I was young, in perfect health and there was no pandemic.

(8 posts)I went a few times toward the end, but my workouts definitely curtailed. I did some lifting and exercise bike at home for a while, but it was definitely harder to stay motivated without the gym surroundings. And boy do I miss the sauna. Hoping to get back into it soon.

(19,117 posts)My good friend who is 80, leads a Chair exercise class for seniors. We have always had different outlooks on fitness. She walks every day, and not only asked me time and again to come to the class at the fitness center. I have a Silver Sneaker card, but I'm flat out not interested. I made excuses. When Covid-19 hit, the fitness center set up a Zoom account, and I didn't really have an excuse not to attend online sessions. I attend the classes, and have missed very few. But I don't like working out and I doubt I ever will.
My friend told me today that the Zoom sessions will end in June. I have been the only person on the Zoom session and the fitness center isn't reimbursing the instructor who set the account up, because the classes are available in the building. I already offered to pay the instructor half of the Zoom costs. I'm looking into free online meetings to use.
I don't want to drive into town 2 times a week for something I don't like. I have lost almost 60 pounds in the last 30 months, and none of my clothes fit. I haven't been in a store to shop, and I have no idea what size I wear, or what styles will look good. I have sandals I wear most of the time because my back, hips, legs and feet don't hurt when I wear them. I have no gym shoes that don't hurt when I wear them. Other people attend in the gym and from their comments, they are not people I want to associate with in person-thrumpers, christian, all of the outlooks I don;t have. I already popped off when someone dissed President Biden. And when they start with the prayers, I tune out.
If I can't find an online meeting app, I need to figure out how honest I will be. Any ideas? Thanks!
