I'm heading out to my first therapy appointment. Wish me luck.

I admit I'm anxious/nervous. I took an Ativan to try and calm my anxiety down enough to not come across as a basket case.

The counselor I'm seeing has some pretty impressive credentials.

You’ve got this. It’s uncomfortable seeing a new therapist for the first time but I’ve found the nerves and anxiety are go away when you start to talk. If not, if you feel uncomfortable with them after a couple sessions, find another one! A good fit is necessary to get the work done.

If you feel like you can tell this person anything I mean ANYTHING then this will be productive. Bon voyage!

at some point in their lives, even if they think nothing's wrong. You learn so much about yourself.

I went to two different therapists. Hey, back at that time my insurance paid for it and if it kept me from strangling my boss, it was money well spent.

One therapist was kind of a jerk, but the second one was really good. I still remember things she said, and this is decades later.

upset during your session. Do some mindfulness stuff until you feel well enough to drive.

I'm speaking from experience. Best of luck to you.

You won’t notice any quick progress.

For me, after doing various treatment regimens for 4 years or so, I suddenly looked back at myself noticed that I didn’t feel all that bad anymore. I was excited about what my future could be and I was content with where I was life.

Stick with it, put it the work, and be as honest as you can with yourself and your treatment team.

Some days you will feel you’re just as hopeless as when you first started. Other days, you’ll be able to see progress.

From one stranger (with a heart) to another, I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

You have embarked on a journey of self discovery and understanding of what is bothering you. I have been there and I can tell you that I truly benefited from my sessions with a competent and caring psychology professional.

Be careful of strong medicine that may counteract too effectively.

I took a Percocet for pain on my first day of physical therapy.

It disguised the effect of the pt which did not have as much benefit.

From then on, it was no Percocet.
