Related: About this forumWell, tomorrow I go in to have my shoulder ripped up... again...
I had finally gotten full movement back. Now, thanks to living in the frozen tundra, I damaged it in January and now have to have the anchor that pulled out when I pulled the tendons removed. (If it had not come out, I could have just waited till the damage re-healed and gone from there. But that is not how my luck works. It never has and it never will.)
I am not doing well right now because I do not do pain. In any way. I have already spoken to the doctor and told him that I am not going to do this until I have assurances that I will be able to get the pain meds that I need. What he may not be ready to deal with is that I plan to walk in with an agreement that he will sign or I will thank him and walk right back out. I am not going to do this again like I did the last time. They gave me X amount of meds and said, "Take ibuprofen or tylenol if you need anything more." I wonder if I should just drive back to the place the moment it starts to hurt again and stand at the door screaming bloody murder until my voice gives out. (as a former singer who used to have to reach 3000 seat amphitheaters with no amplification, I may be in pitiful shape these days, but I can still be very loud when I want to be.)
In short, I am freaking out right now and I want to run out into the rain naked until I die from exposure. But, that would also hurt and as I said before...

(51,308 posts)Had a great doctor for the first, and a good one for the second.
The pain is bad with shoulder surgery, and the second one they gave me one of those med things you press and it just releases into your bloodstream, which was nice while it lasted.
But any pain pills make me horribly sick, so after the pain press thing was gone, I just depended on ibuprofen or aleve. Believe me, I know your pain. I never even used the oxy stuff, that makes me vomit.
The trauma was so bad for both that I'm no dealing with something called avascular arthritis or something. Not good. Will have to have the shoulder replaced. Whenever I need it done lol.
I'm used to the pain, and I'm almost used to not being able to lift my arms over my head, but it's horrible and frustrating. Putting on a jacket can be cause for a meltdown.
Do whatever you can with physical therapy and just keep it moving. Heat helps me, but some say ice is better. a vibrating pad really soothes it too. Sending you good thoughts...been there done that twice. Let us know how it goes.
Hang in there.

(6,270 posts)Thanks to cannabis, I can handle the pain meds. If I don't have that in conjunction with the meds, they can make my stomach unhappy. I was already having issues with lifting my arms over my head, so this is just going to be worse, I guess. I had finally gotten it to where I could do it, now it is back to square one. Thanks for the kind words.

(6,270 posts)I got back home around noon. I went in at 6:30 a.m., they started around 7:30, and was in recovery by 9:30. Not a lot of pain. (BTW, I hate being intubated.) Thanks for thinking about me.

(38,866 posts)A story told.
Thus far I choose to stick around to whatever "natural" end awaits me.
When I'm cold and dead and composted, all that will be left is the stories I've told.
I hope they are good stories.

(6,270 posts)I will be seeing the doctor for the followup on Tuesday. I have stopped wearing the sling anyway, and I made the bed today without much pain. (When one is snapping the sheets and bedspread, that takes a lot of shoulder strength if the spread is heavy.) Now I just hope to be able to start therapy so that I can work on getting some strength back. I also cannot wait until it gets warmer here so I can go walking more often.
Now it is just a matter of seeing what happens with the legal proceedings. The other side has an attorney now, and in typical fashion, they are already trying to find something to harp on so that they can try some character assassination. We will see how it goes.
