It's 3am, the rain from tropical storm Beryl is here and my weather related anxiety is up and roaring

Mid Michigan could get over 3" of rain so I'm awake and obsessively checking on the sump pump. It's a good sump pump and not that old but that doesn't stop my fear it will fail and the basement will flood.

Almost all of the dire weather forecasts have been wrong, this year, so fingers crossed we don't get quite that amount of rain and it ends earlier than predicted. Otherwise I'll spend the duration of the storm running up and down the basement stairs and setting timers, in case I do fall asleep.

On the bright side, I won't be going anywhere so maybe I'll just stay in my pajamas, all day. Unless, of course, I head out to buy a spare sump pump.

I live in Broward county, where there was some serious flooding recently. Water was entering under the garage door. Flooded the foundation, which was damaged. Some expensive repairs in the near future.

I have residual PTSD since hurricane Andrew, so I understand the anxiety.

Best wishes. I'll be thinking of you.

so the sump pump hasn't really been running as much as in past years.

If I make it through this storm I'm going to buy a new one and maybe swap this one out. I can keep it as an emergency spare.

I have an emergency back up sump pump but I need a new battery and I never remember that when I have someone here to help me. That will change, this weekend. If they weren't so heavy, I'd buy one in the morning. The backup pummp doesn't do a great job but it does buy time.

I raced down the basement stairs to check on the sump pump. Earlier the water was coming in very light and slow. Now it's back to near pouring in so NO MORE SLEEP until this rain has left the area. At least the sump pump is sill pumping.

Sian just jumped up on my lap and pressed herself down against me so that I'll stay put and stop panicking.
