I've been struggling to lose 20 lbs. I lost 30 pounds six years ago and have gained 20 back. Not only do I sabotage my efforts, but my family does as well. I know I can do it. I did it once before.

Another issue is a bad back that limits my ability to exercise.

Are there any special rules here?

Dec 2011

Last Jan 24 - 258 lbs (6 ft tall, 55 yrs old)

my wife and I joined WW.

By end of July - 208 lbs.

here we are in Dec - holding steady at 208. Just about to join a gym....also just listened to The China Study and moving toward more of a whole food plant based diet.

I am thrilled at 208 - but would LOVE to slowly drop into the 190s or lower.....

Maintenance has been interesting - though I am keeping to the recommended number of WW points for continued loss, I seem to be at a dreaded plateau.

so that's it - am happy to share what worked well to get the 50 lbs off, and tactics I am using to keep it off! Ask me anything....

I was about 25 down in 6 months and then kicked it into massive fitness mode. I completed 7 months of fitness boot camp and now I am doing 20-25 miles per week of jogging/hiking. I am down 60 lbs and more than 16 inches from my waist.

I like WW a lot. It's taught me portion control and is holding me accountable to weekly weigh ins. I do NOT like the fact they totally ignore sodium intake. In fact, the WW meals in restaurants and prepackaged are AWFUL in that regard. So watch that on your own, too.

Congrats on your success!!!

I now think in "points" and track my daily points on my Google calendar. I've found that writing it all down - total honesty - has been a real key (and eye opener). We've not been to WW since July (we are fixed income and feel that we've "got it" - and still follow it very well).

Agree on sodium issues - we've stopped eating out at restaurants for the most part due to this....in fact, (I love to cook and we eat really very healthy) - food at restaurants or anything prepared tastes so oversalted we can't stand it!

It holds you accountable. I also love the points plan -- much easier to follow than the old "exchanges" system that I was on during my first go-round with WW back in the '80s. That was essentially the same as a diabetic's diet, and tracking could get complicated at times.

Writing things down has become second nature. I get a Tracker booklet at my meeting every week; when I hit my goal I'm going to get a three-month planner.

Congratulations and good luck!

And it is puzzling that WW doesn't consider sodium intake. I wonder why.

I really, really like WW a lot, too. Much more user-friendly than it used to be. I'm finding that I'm making better food choices and I'm not really missing the stuff that I used to eat regularly (like candy bars, muffins, etc.). I'm finding that I also need the accountability, so I'm probably going to be with the plan for a long while.

Son graduated from high school on Saturday, which meant a lot of food afterward, including my all-time favorite dessert, cheesecake with fruit topping.

I worked in a little exercise through walking before I ate, and did strict portion control, and survived. I even had the cheesecake. I did have to dip into my WW extra points (for the first time). Felt a **little** guilty at that, but got over it. That's what they're there for, after all.

As of yesterday's weigh-in, I am four pounds away from my goal. Since our weeks here go from Monday through Saturday, and my regular meeting day is Saturday, I won't have an "official" weigh in again until a week from Saturday.
