so i have been losing about a pound a week for 2.5 months now. Have reduced calories and been going to the gym with a trainer twice a week, and independently another two days. I have lost about 11 pounds and have another 9 i want to lose.
however this week, I have been insanely exhausted. (sleeping 8-9 hours but so groggy)
any ideas? have you guys experienced this on your weight loss efforts?

everyone is different and it is very important to know if it is your body trying to tell you something... great job so far!!
(...I have lost about 30lbs/6mo) ...have been getting up about 6am to run and once in awhile feel pretty groggy but always perk up after some walking/running...

(14,167 posts)But there could be a lot of other reasons too, like lack of certain vitamins or minerals -- your body may not be fully equipped to keep up with your level of activity.
I'd talk to your trainer about this since he/she knows your fitness level, progress, physical stats, etc.
And yes, I have experienced feelings of tiredness after exercise. Again, I think it's me trying to do too much too soon. Right now I'm trying to self-train for a half-marathon next year, and I'm trying to follow a plan that perhaps may not be all that suitable for someone my age (51). Some days I feel great (like today); other days I'm lucky to run 3 miles before I feel like I'm on the edge of collapse (like Sunday). I'm going to tweak it to give myself at least one more day of rest. So, no, you're not alone here.

(14,489 posts)you won't have enough fuel to burn for a strenuous workout. Is your trainer also involved with your nutrition planning?

(9,464 posts)You need extra when you are working out. Maybe try adding a protein bar or shake to your diet after you work out?

(15,667 posts)Losing a pound a week is perfect but after you lose a significant amount of weight and you change your habits for a good amount of time, sometimes your body goes through a period of sort of needs to adjust. My advice to you, and you can research this independently, is to have a week where you eat very mindfully but cut the exercise in half; then gear up again the following week. This "rest period" has gotten me through those "last few pounds" plateaus before.

(14,167 posts)People think -- and I am just as guilty as anyone else of this -- that if they take a bit of rest from exercise, they'll lose whatever progress they've made. Not so. A few days of reduced or no exercise will not cause any great setback.
I would also do some lighter stuff, or maybe something different -- just to mix things up a bit. Maybe that will give a mental boost that will help with the physical.
And -- YES. If you're activity is reduced, you really need to keep track of what you eat.
