If I have a snack of cheese and crackers, I'll cut some cheese, and then fish some crackers out of the box. I don't count one of the other, but almost every time, I have the enough crackers for the pieces of cheese. It freaks me out that it happens almost every time. Anyone else have the same experience?
(yes, it is a snowy Tuesday, and I have time on my hands!)

(10,304 posts)at how many times I pulled out the exact number of envelopes or sheets of paper I needed for a project. It also extends to the passage of time. I can almost always tell the time, within about 10-15 minutes, day or night. I always thought this was the superpower of estimation!!!

(18,903 posts)I heard on the radio a long time ago that people who could estimate what time it is without having a clock around had higher I.Q.s.

I bet your brain-to-eyes connection sees a pattern. Somehow your brain is calculating to find a symmetry. An anthropologist told me were hard-wired to see patterns for survival in the savannah. She explained it in a lecture about UFOs and why some people misinterpret what they see.
Just curious, do you see anything similar in other parts of your life? Ill second the suggestion that you apply the talent to the lottery!
To be honest, Im more interested in your choices of cheese and crackers! For snacks, I like cheddar, Swiss, Brie, Asiago and occasionally Edam. For crackers, I like Carrs, Triskets, Ritz and pita bread.

(18,903 posts)just a handful, usually, but I can't see into the box. I usually cut the same amount of cheese. Maybe after so many years, I know how much cheese to cut to match a handful of crackers.
Triscuits are my usual cracker, and any kind of cheese I have on hand, usually extra sharp cheddar, Pepper Jack, Colby, Monterey Jack or Swiss. I could make some bleu cheese dip, maybe on the weekend. I am working my way through a box of Wheat Thins, and even with a different cracker, the lineup works.
I can't think of anything in my life that needs to match up, except socks

(16,480 posts)I have a pill box for them with the days of the week. It doesnt seem to matter if the boxes are empty or if theres day or two left. When I shake out the vitamins, I almost always have the exact amount I need to fill the remaining boxes. Its weird.

(26,639 posts)part of a large meal, think Thanksgiving, be done at EXACTLY the same time. Which actually made things more difficult. I've gotten better about being able to sequence which foods get done, and it helps that I now live alone and a big meal for me has far fewer components.
