Cold vegetable wrap: Avocado and goat cheese on the wrap. The filling is cucumber, red onion, alfalfa sprouts, grated carrots, and radishes. Alfalfa sprouts and toasted sliced almond slivers.

Fruit medley for dessert: watermelon cubes, blueberries, mango.

To drink, citrus Earl Grey (blood orange, bergamot, lemon, black tea) kombucha.

Pan-fried cheeseburgers with lettuce, tomato & onion slices served with macaroni salad. Chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

We have to pan-fry them because there are voracious horseflies in our anchorage in the Cohansey River on the Delaware Bay side of New Jersey!

I just add surimi to my (homemade) coleslaw, and serve it on a bun. The leftover potato salad will be a side dish.

They were run through a machine like cubed beef steak. They were dredged lightly in seasoned flour and then pan fried.

Stewed apples with cinnamon, equal, and a tiny pat of butter.

I got distracted and didn't fix the planned side of mixed frozen veggies.

I am having a gin and diet tonic with lime to celebrate that the lawn is mowed. I've finally re-hydrated and cooled down so this libation is possible

using Marcella Hazen's recipe for the sauce. It was going to be dinner yesterday, but the recipe wants 3-5 hours of cooking. On the plus side, there will be plenty of sauce leftover that can be frozen for quick meals later.

Haven't decided on sides yet

ETA: Mr. Retrograde has decided he wants fresh pasta. Fine, I told him - go ahead and make it

fresh pasta

Fine, I told him - go ahead and make it.

++does he know how much work it is to make fresh pasta?

Re Marcella Hazan--she is one of the few chefs that the RG likes. He knows all those people from Jacques Pepin to Emeril to Bobby Flay et al, and very few get a positive comment from him. But Marcella is another story. He adores her and we have a number of her cookbooks. He likes Jacques, too. For some strange reason they often get seated next to each other on airplanes.

I like to watch his face when cooking shows are on. Such scorn (Bobby Flay, Emeril). But when Marcella is on, he looks like he could melt.

in about 10 minutes, let it rest for half an hour, and ran it through the pasta machine. Now it's drying a bit before cooking. I cut it into not too pretty strips - OK, so it's rustic.
