Any Prolon fans?

So, this is cookware which is made of melamine, and the brand name is Prolon.

Melamine cookware is obsolete largely because it is not microwave safe. I have a Prolon collection and yes, if you put it in the microwave it heats up FAST.

That said, my Prolon collection has some nice old-timey features like serving platters and small bowls that don't seem to have modern equivalents. So, I could toss it, but at a loss. Anyone else in this predicament?

1. I know they made dinnerware but not cookware

and I'm afraid all I can envision is a puddle of melted plastic on the stovetop or in the oven.

My mother had all sorts of the stuff. After my parents died, all I could think was how much money it would have sold for in NYC, a lot of it looked like Jetsons stuff.

I have a knee jerk reaction against it, probably because my mother hated cooking so much. I favor Corelle, I have the drops and can't manage other kinds of dinnerware. I didn't know melamine ware hated microwaves. It's just as well.

2. I hope you never have to see Corelle break.

When they go, they detonate into tiny shards.

3. I said I have a bad case of the drops

If it hits just wrong, it goes into a million pieces and you need to bring out the vacuum, the broom won't do the job.

It's also endlessly replaceable.

5. Worse than glass?

A buddy of mine dropped a beer glass in my kitchen. I swear he must have spiked the damn thing; I was still finding that glass across three rooms weeks later.

6. It literally explodes into tiny needle like shards.

Corelle used to do demonstration of their “unbreakable” dinnerware by hitting it with a hammer. I had a Corelle plate when I was a freshman in college. A friend was so impressed he used to like to throw the plate against walls like a frisbee. One night it hit just right, and grenaded.

The only way to clean it up was a vacuum. Which I made him do. I was pissed. I was out one plate, and he hadn’t even asked me. I was playing pool at the time.

4. Yes, dinnerware, correction noted

I don't think there's any value in this stuff. There is a serving platter which is really light and durable and perfect for grilling. It's hard to find a modern equivalent. They have these teacups too though which suuuuuuuuck. Those are how I discovered the microwave issue.
