What's for Dinner, Tues., Aug. 8, 2023

Fried green tomatoes topped with blue cheese. Some of the slices are topped with kim chi.

Bratwurst.

Assortment of red, yellow and green peppers for cold crunchiness.

Dessert: lemon fruit bar with salt & pepper cashews (great combo!)

You might say, Cher, why are you having a green tomato at the height of tomato season?

Answer: I had a beautiful beefsteak, just like the one I posted a pic of here about a week ago, but a groundhog took a bite out of it. It wasn't a very big bite so I cut it in half and there was still a lot of tomato.

Oh and would you like to know how I spent my morning? Building cages around my tomato and eggplant.

That we enclosed our garden with wire fencing.

I’m jealous of your beefsteaks! Mine are still light green.

But I've been getting cherry tomatoes since around 7/25.

You are going to love the taste of those beefsteaks!

Some of my gardens are fenced in. This one is a school garden that would look unattractive to fence. Even in my other school garden, which is fenced in, we have a groundhog this year. Actually a groundhog mommy with four little babies. It doesn't live there; it lives at a neighbor's and I've been told runs across the road for dinner. My gardeners are just devastated, even though they put a fence around their raised beds and I also bought them Repel-All. You still have to be diligent to keep them away.

crab, shrimp, andouille sausage, sweet corn and potatoes. My husband is not very accustomed to shelling shrimp or picking crab, but we enjoyed it. A friend had given me zucchini brownies, so that was dessert. Because of work schedules, we were celebrating my birthday a couple days early. So I'm satisfied.
