(791 posts)We've had a houseful of hunters for a week, so I've got bits and bobs of smoked brisket, pulled pork, shrimp fra diavolo with linguini, and some crock-pot chili to eat up.

(69,879 posts)As a plus, I used rutabaga that I par boiled with saffron. Then, I added the saffron water to the egg noodle water. So, both were infused with it, though the noodles were barely yellowed by it.
I also cheated by using frozen pearl onions. It's such a pain to pop soaked fresh pearl onions out of the skin. Cuts over 20 minutes off prep time.
Everything else was fresh, including hand sliced cremini mushrooms.
My wife loved it.

(136,055 posts)Noodles rather than potatoes?
ProfessorGAC
(69,879 posts)I use the rutabaga to get that chunky thing instead of potatoes.
When I was a kid, Howard Johnson's used to have Beef Burgundy. It was served over egg noodles & I loved that dish.
I think serving over noodles is imprinted on my brain.

(22,886 posts)Theres a whole bunch of little chores to get the boat ready for dry-docking. The sails have to come off, the plumbing has to be winterized, the batteries have to come off, etc. its easier to do in little bites!
Since it was our home for nearly a year, weve grown quite fond of our micro-yacht! Its fun to be aboard. But its time for a haul-out. Plus its getting cold!
Enjoy your weekend, elleng!

(508 posts)Friday is DVD night. After the cheeseburgers is Waking Ned Devine with a couple shots of Bushmills 10. I suppose that constitutes dessert.

(26,727 posts)A few days ago my friend Nancy called me, and said, "I have a huge favor to ask of you, Poindexter. On Friday I'll be volunteering at the homeless shelter (here in Santa Fe, and where we used to regularly volunteer before the Pandemic) and could you please drive me." I said, "Of course!" So when I brought her there today, I left her where she'd be working, and went to the kitchen, where I always used to work before, and asked the people there if I could help. They were glad to have me, and as most of them had not worked there before, I wound up being extremely useful and helpful because I knew where things were, knew how to set up to serve our guests. They were mostly connected to a local Episcopal church.
What I love about Santa Fe is that even though I'm not remotely religious, don't belong to a faith group, there is a wonderful inter-faith community. I'd originally gotten involved with the homeless shelter when my friend Nancy, who belonged to the First Presbyterian Church here, asked me, somewhat hesitantly, if I'd be willing to help out. Of course! That's the kind of thing churches do, and since I didn't myself belong to a church, I was incredibly happy to be asked.
This evening, the people I was working with strongly encouraged me to join them again, and told me their usual schedule. I think I need to do that.
Back to the meal. They'd made both a meat and a vegetarian pasta, more than plenty for the evening. Also roasted broccoli, salad, pineapple, and desert. The pasta was amazing. I brought home a couple of servings for myself.
Alas, I don't have the recipe.

I'm not remotely religious either, but our community garden donations go through an Episcopal Church nearby.

(26,727 posts)I was out of town last Friday, but I'll be taking Nancy pretty much every Friday from now on to the shelter. I'll be heading to the kitchen and helping out.
I really loved it back before the Pandemic when we worked there regularly.

(6,339 posts)Hella deal at $8 a lb. I got two but only ate two clusters and it was plenty! Had a salad with avocado cilantro dressing and a hoagie roll. All served with Kerrygold butter for dippin crab and bread. Was delish and I still feel full as a tick.
Maybe because I also made chocolate puddin and just had some for dessert.
