(113,130 posts)and finished by picking the poor burger out of it, silently apologizing to the whole species for the insult. It has since been Hamburger Hater to me.
Rice A Roni was easier, that went straight into the garbage and I dined on a peanut butter sandwich, instead.
Almost anything you do from scratch will be better than stuff in a box unless you're one of those weirdos who does last minute substituions like beanie-weenie when you don't have any beans so you made it with blueberries, instead, because the berries were the right size and shape. If that's the case, eat out of boxes. Please.

(10,653 posts)Three generations of my family worked for General Mills, so it was the only brand of cereal allowed in my house growing up. We only had cereals made by the General. So when they found I had (almost) no packaged foods in my cupboards, they sent me a care package of various Hamburger Helpers. I think I sent them on to a food pantry. Anyone with any cooking ability can make a better meal from basic ingredients than from Hamburger Helper.
As for substituting blueberries for beans - I'm now thinking of a blueberry and apple/chicken sausage dish for breakfast tomorrow

(113,130 posts)food was about all we had to play with. Our [arents had been all about convenience, throw a slap of beast in the oven, open a can, maybe cook some Minute Rice if they were feeling exotic.
My mother used to send me things like multiple cans of Cheez-Whiz. There was no food pantry in town, so I just passed the crap along to people who liked it. I was lucky, she didn't like Rice A Roni or Hamburger Hater.
