I made this recipe yesterday with a bag of cucumbers my neighbor gave me.

They are delicious. I added thinly sliced onions to the batch so I could use the onions on sandwiches. Very crispy, and dilly. No sugar!

I hate the pickling process. When I was a child, my Grandmother made pickles in a house with an attic fan. It was humid and hot ecckkk!

She pickled everything from watermelon rind to chow chow. 🤗

Thanks so much! I am definitely making this.

Once you start, you find more things that can be pickled like this - thinly sliced red onions, carrots, cauliflower, okra, jalapenos - and before you know it your fridge is full of pickles! (Not that that's a bad thing)

that weren't wrapped in plastic, costing an arm and a leg.

The only difference was that I used BIG garlic cloves and I smashed them instead of slicing them, I didn't like raw garlic all that much, even pickled raw garlic, and found it easier to avoid a big, squashed piece of it. By the way, no sub for rice vinegar.

Now I want some crunchy, garlicky pickles.

difference as do the red pepper flakes. My neighbors and the farmers markets are full of cucumbers right now. Can tomatoes be far behind? And peaches. I cannot wait for the freestone GA and SC peaches to hit the markets. This is supposed to a great year for them after none last year.
