Fennel slices, apple, and lettuce salad. The lettuce is a mixture of a few kinds: red tip, green ruffly, a little watercress and arugula. I have fresh fennel heads to use in the dressing.
Pasta with fresh tomato sauce and the anchovies I received for my birthday. (It cracks me up that anyone would get a half dozen tins of anchovies for their b'day).
I have some charbroiled meatballs but doubt I'll use them. Might, though.
Ginger kombucha.
Cold tea and a small slice of cheese Danish.
The Landlady's nephew and his wife are visiting and I'm taking everyone to a Bistro on NYC's upper east side. It's a terrific restaurant so I know we'll eat well.

(19,112 posts)I am going back to my friend's tomorrow, so I used leftovers, fresh and frozen to put together a quick meal and use a few things so they aren't here Monday. I will do the rice like this again. Really hits the spot.

(37,981 posts)What went into the salad was the fennel bulb sliced on the mandoline.
Over the top of the salad and also into the dressing was unripened seeds off a fennel frond. Looked like this (stock photo):

I crushed the fennel seed first, to bring out the flavor. It was really strong! I only used a few in the dressing and on top of the salad because it was so strong.
For the dressing, I just diluted ranch dressing with milk and added thyme and the crushed fennel buds. Wow, it was so good!
