OMG my Eureka rumbled out

My Eureka had trouble with tight seals on the vacuum bags. A lot of junk
made it past the bag. I double filtered the motor. But the dirt eventually
ground upper engine mount. It made a lot of noise. Now all it does is smoke,
buzz, or play dead. I think it's a goner.

Now this is a simple 1970s vacuum. Hose and nozzles and carpet brush.
You could vacuum anything - sand, auto engine, crevices. So I go to
the store, they hardly make canister vacs anymore, and the ones they
do have handle grips on the hose, beater carpet heads, retractable cords,
wet/dry at the flip of a switch. They're huge and heavy. All I need is a
vacuum with a hose that is small and sucks well - i use it to pull ash from
my flue sometimes.

The vac is about 1977, not sure it's worth repair, but ... I might
try a local vac shop. Throwing $120 at a moderately beaten up
machine ... don't know. Can buy a used one for about $100.
Might do that, and part this one out.

3. You are so right.

The simpler the better. Maybe try a refurbished one? We have those little vacuum cleaner repair shops scattered about and they sell used canister models. I've got an extremely old Oreck canister that can suck circles around my Shark upright. I'll be sad when it dies. Good luck!

5. I bought a used Eureka at a thrift shop

No attachments, just a vacuum and hose. A few tags on it, was sitting there for a year. Price was right - $5.
Cleaned it. Had to soak the wheel treads in vinyl restorer. Cleaned and waxed the cord. It is powerful, used with
more than moderate wear, relatively small bags. Cord reel needed work, now it is fine.

Here's the thing. I can't find any pics or references to it online. It is exactly like the Eureka Maxima canister in yellow,
called a 972B. But this model is the 972A and it is Blue and simply called Rally rather than Maxima! I don't know when it was manufactured. It's not in part diagrams,
not on eBay or Amazon. I'm wondering if it's rare?

The yellow one was on Amazon, listed as first available in 2014 I think it was.

Did you know Eureka's been owned by Electrolux since 1974? Though they sold the name in 2014, they still manufacture all Eureka's. Mine is made in China. No reference to Eureka manufacturing plants in Asia, just Mexico and Illinois.

6. I have an Oreck and I believe they sell used/refurbished at the local

store. I like Oreck because you can have it repaired. Recently the fixed a major part of mine and it only cost was 20 some bucks to get it back to working great.
