Looking for a glue product...

...that will bond glass and pewter.

I received a lovely vase made of glass with a pewter decoration attached somehow to it. After several years' use, the bond deteriorated and I've been unable to successfully re-glue it.

Any suggestions?

I've tried plain white glue, epoxy (the kind you have to mix before you apply it) and super glue.

The curved surface of the glass makes it difficult to achieve that first attachment, and the weight of the pewter piece makes it slip easily.

I'd like to apply a glue, and then use cling wrap to hold them together until the bond sets.

Suggestions?

1. Not sure about the adhesive...

but try a clamp rather than cling wrap when you get the right adhesive. You need to bind the two surfaces with pressure.

5. I can't imagine how to clamp the vase...

As it's rather fragile glass with a narrow neck, broad shoulder, and tapers to a smaller base. The pewter bit goes around about a third or so, and reaches from the base to not quite the widest part of the shoulder.

The clamps I have available wouldn't hold between the neck and the shoulder.

That's why I thought of cling wrap.

But unfortunately, the end bit wouldn't fit through the narrow neck of the vase.

3. I fixed a coffee table leg not that long ago.

I used Gorilla Glue.

Still holding.

4. Get 5-minute epoxy and hold it by hand for the 5 minutes.

6. I wish I could trust my hands to hold completely still for five minutes!

I did try with the epoxy I tried, and no matter how carefully I braced myself, my hands would move just a little and the bond would undo, alas.

I bonded something to the front of a mirror which has hung vertically for 20 yrs. Not bad.

14. Gorilla Glue now makes a

crystal clear glue for glass. Not all stores that carry the regular Gorilla Glue and I get it online. It works very well. Loctite Glass Glue is a decent choice too. We've used both of them and they're great.

15. Auto parts stores carry a glue

that's made for attaching rear view mirrors onto the inside of the windshield.
