I have a cramp in my arm from patting myself on the back

This morning I replaced the heating element, thermostat cut off kit, and thermal fuse on my dryer. I didn't electrocute myself, and it's working.

One of my sons volunteered to do it for me, but he lives about 100 miles away so I didn't want him to have to drive here. I could also have asked another son who lives here, but I thought I should at least try to do it myself before bothering him. I'm sure he could have done it much faster, but it's nice to know that I can still figure things out on my own.

I love that feeling when something that is beyond my experience actually works. It rarely happens for me, but kudos to you!

If it's something that requires a lot of muscle, I have no choice but to call one of my family members to help me.

I also don't do anything that requires me to crawl up on a roof. I can clean gutters, but that's as high as I can go. I must have fallen off of a high place in a previous life. My acrophobia is terrible.

Consider something like this to keep your feet FIRMLY planted on the ground when cleaning gutters: https://mybackyardlife.com/how-to-clean-gutters-from-ground/

Anyway, you should be very proud to have fixed the dryer. You saved $100s and you have a sense of accomplishment. Nothing like it!

I don't think I like that idea. I'd be worried that I'd be driving moisture up under the shingles.

I really don't mind ladders much. I made myself face that fear. It's getting off that ladder at the top that's the problem, and then knowing that I'll have to get back on it to come down.

This past fall I saw my neighbor across the street up on her roof blowing off leaves with a leaf blower. Her husband was standing down below watching her. I thought it was so funny. She seemed amazed when she saw me painting my house last year, which, to me, was nothing compared to getting up on a roof.

If I could have found a video of my exact model of dryer, I would have saved a lot of time.

And thank you!

If you keep tackling stuff like this you'll never get old. You probably saved a lot of money too....

I tried to put together a teak shower stool today and succeeded in breaking off an imbedded screw in one of the legs. Plus I tightened the bolt so hard on the other end I can't get it loosened to remove it.

Sigh. One more thing for the handyman to fix when he comes back to install the countertop on the new laundry room cabinets. I just wrote a big check for him for the first 10 days of things he did helping with the move in to my new house and I thought, well, I could put together several of these small furniture pieces that come unassembled. Huh. Looks like I'll end up paying for this one.
