I have a new kitchen. We bought a Maytag electric double oven range with convection oven. It has a flat glass cook top.
I hate the damn thing and it is going back to the store. I can't figure out how to use the oven(s) and the food is always cold or undercooked. I use computers and other devices with little or no problem. I can't be that stupid.
I would like a simple free standing range. One oven is good enough. I don't need a convection oven or air fryer. I don't care what kind of cook top it has, as long as it cleans up well. I am so tired of this!
Does anyone have any recommendations as to what type of range I can get that heats up to the standard temperatures and broils as well? Has easy to set features, even if they are few?

We get basic. As far as basic electric goes; GE 27-inch Slide-In Electric Range (JM250DFBB)
For what it is worth, sounds like you got a lemon.

(31,433 posts)I have shopped at the small local store for forty years. I trust them. This is going to be miserable to straighten out, even with honest people and the best of intentions.
I just don't need fancy appliances. If I need an air fryer or another type of device, I can buy something that is not a part of the range. It can be free standing, or sit on the counter like my slow cooker or my electric skillet.

(59,605 posts)Turns out heat tends go crack or break the glass tops and, as such, there is no extended warranty available, at least at that time at the 2 big box stores I visited in my search.
I was so disgusted, I gave up.
Maybe some commercial brand would work for you?

would have a gas stove.

(12,774 posts)2 months after end of warranty it sparked at knob and blew board, threw breaker. Of course this was at beginning of Covid. .Could not get it repaired. Didnt want anyone in house, so got nice toaster oven. Then bought crockpot express-crisp like instant pot with air fryer lid, too. We may never get a new stove. If we do it will be basic. We are solar- all electric here, so sadly dont have gas option, unless we have propane tank sunk into yard and plumbed in and that isnt going to happen.

(9,696 posts)I've used a convection oven for years, its faster and cleaner. Just got the induction stove top. It took a little bit of testing to figure out how to cook food but now that I've figured it out it's easier, cleaner, quicker and the food tastes better - never gets overcooked.
I found lot of videos and articles online on how to cook with electric. BTW, gas stoves are a huge source of indoor pollution. That was the main reason I wanted to make the switch.

(14,653 posts)last house and I like the speed of the heat. When you turn down the heat it turns down NOW!
not in a few min.. With in a week I got what looks like burn spots IN the glass what wont clean up. Real junk but "top of the line" My new place will allow only electrical appliances, no gas.
I am trying an induction cook top as I hear it has more control of the heat and acts like a gas stove. I bought a free standing Duxtop portable Induction Cooktop to see if I like cooking with induction. I have plenty of iron/steel pans so that is not a problem.
I'm no professional cook but you look at all the restaurants and they use gas.
I wonder why.. Legacy? or control. At the first sign of any problems this very pretty junk box it out the door... YMMV

(31,433 posts)I bought the most basic electric range I could find. They were not upset with me for being a PITA. I have shopped there for forty years and they are good to me. The place has been family owned for three generations. The third generation woman, who grew up with my kids, was very nice about helping me find a basic range. We will be set in a few days.

(113,130 posts)It sounds like your oven is most likely miscalibrated and isn't giving you the proper cooking temperature.
An oven thermometer is something I've always kept since I lived in shitty Boston apartments and none of them had stoves with properly calibrated ovens.

ETA: This advice goes for the new stove, also. An oven thermometer is an essential piece of kitchen gear, IMO.
