Related: About this forumHow much should I expect a bathroom addition
to cost? It will displace room in my garage. It will be simple but good quality. I am getting a bid on Tuesday. I honestly have no idea of the cost. 10K? 20K? More? I am in small townl N. California.

(3,426 posts)Depends on several factors. One being where is the drain line in relation to the location you designated for yer addition. bringing water lines to location is another. Is it a full bathroom ?
Of course you know the main drain line is under ground- unless you already have drainage in the garage. Breaking concrete and digging may be involved.Cement patching -plumbing so fourth.
But, all I imagine is space to be framed, plumbed,wired-sheet rocked and painted. There is no way estimate each phase of your addition not knowing what is there or not there. Not knowing where the drain is going to tied in-or where the water lines will be tied in-and power to new addition. The electrical breaker box -running a new circuit or two to yer addition.
Sight unseen there is no way to really even give you a ball park.
Some people spend $10,000 on a bathroom remodel.
Get at least 5 estimates-more would be better.

(3,426 posts)I would be able to give you a reasonable approximation.Contractor pricing will very from state to state, but there isn't much in a difference between here and there.
If you want to know more, send up some of the details in yer first estimate . I'm interested to know the plumbing situation.Drain and water lines.

(120,903 posts)Old house, had no second-floor bathroom at all, which was a big PITA, so I had a small bedroom divided into a full bath and a walk-in closet. Of course they had to run all new plumbing to the second floor; and, since the room was an odd shape with sloping dormer ceilings, they had to hand-tile the tub surround because a stock fiberglass one wouldn't fit. But with the demolition of the old walls, framing, new plumbing, wiring, insulation, plumbing fixtures, floor and wall tile, etc., it was expensive - it ran to about $30K. But I love it.

(120,903 posts)that really jacked up the cost. You should be able to do it for a lot less.
