For awhile now Ive been considering adding a greenhousemore specifically a conservatory like you see on a lot of British homes. I have a spot on the eastern side of the house where it would fit nicely, but am afraid of just creating a big expensive maintenance headache. I love the idea of a greenhouse, though. Who has a greenhouse? What are the upsides and downsides?

(5,780 posts)I looked into it for my house 15 years ago and it was expensive (like adding an addition) and would not accomplish what I wanted. I didnt do it.

(15,225 posts)A sunny place full of plants to get us through the winter. Visiting a greenhouse or conservatory in the winter is such a sensory delight, Id love to have that. Plus, Im frankly running out of space for my houseplants.

Because I'm lazy, I don't try to use them year-round. However, for exending the season, mood elevation, potting, hanging out in them when it's raining, you can't beat them. Also seed starting. Plus sometimes my cat(s) likes to hang around in them.
My friend has something a little on the order of what I think you're talking about. I might have some pictures. If I do, I'll post them.
