My newest hosta garden.

I have a couple hundred different types of hosta's planted around my yard. I have also made trails that go deep into my woods. Once you get past the bears you'll come upon my newest hosta garden. I have Paul's Glory selected by the American Hosta Growers Association as the Hosta of the Year in 1999. The other side of the park bench is a giant Blue Mammoth hosta. Along side both hosta's are Lady Ferns. Once everything grows to full size I think it's gonna look pretty.

1. Beautiful. Do snails like hostas?

3. Yes, but I don't have that problem on any of mine.

I shred up Irish Spring soap and sprinkle around my beds. I do that to keep wildlife critters from tearing them up. That might be why I don't have a slug/snail problems?

2. Once you get past the bears...

I fail to believe that many people are going to make it to see the hosta, once they see a bear.

I have a horseshoe shaped hosta grouping in my yard that are blooming now. All I have to brave to see them are bunnies, gray squirrels, chipmunks, and some robins, blue jays and cardinals.

Nothing else grows around my shady house.

I love the blue mammoth! Bought one two years ago.

6. Can you recommend any growers/suppliers of hostas?

We have some, but there is a need for more and some different varieties.

7. Not really.

I just went to my local garden center … they had a huge variety. (Not the big box hardware stores). I suppose you can find anything on line these days as well.

9. I buy most of mine at local nursery garden centers.

I still check Walmart, Menards, etc to see if they have any that I don't have. You might also check your area for Hosta garden centers. I have two in my area and they are great, but they close down in early summer.
