My mature star magnolia and re-blooming saucer varieties became too stressed and infected by magnolia scale to produce seed pods. I've treated it with a systemic fertilizer/insecticide for the last 3 years.

Apparently planted erroneously close by my current landlord's mother. The property has been in their family for a long time.

(17,757 posts)We have a lot of Magnolias on our place, but they are Southern Magnolia. The are nice to look at and have beautiful large white flowers in the Spring, but the shed enough leaves to kill everything that tries to grow beneath them, so we don't have them around the house. One thing that I have noticed about the shed leaves is that they burn like gasoline.
