I am redoing my garden

And of course, what I really mean is that DH is redoing my garden. I'm pointing and planning, but he's doing a lot of the digging and moving.

We are embarking on our backyard project. We've lived here over 20 years, and our backyard has always been a mess. It slopes in two different directions. The garden is at the very north side of the property at the high point. The garden has been enclosed for years (deer!) and I've used tall raised metal beds. The slope across the garden meant that I was rarely on level ground when going from bed to bed.

Next month, the excavating company will come in and remove over 50 yards of dirt from our backyard, leveling out the yard in the process (there will actually be three different tiers and quite a few short walls). My 20'x45' garden space will finally be level!

Of course right now, it's all just...not there. All the beds are tucked away outside of the areas where earth will be moved, and my tea (camellia sinesis), hardy kiwi, bush raspberries and rhubarb are all just hanging out in those beds. A retaining wall will be built behind the garden and gravel will be put down and then the beds can go back into place. I'm orienting the beds so that I'll have at least 6 cattle panel arches along the back row of seven planter beds. I'm hoping it'll all be installed by the end of April.

We're also having the foundations poured for the 8'x8' garden shed and 12'x10' greenhouse. I'm not getting the greenhouse this year, and we probably won't build the shed either. It just makes more sense to have the concrete poured now rather than after the pathways and grass are put in place. The shed will share a wall with the garden on one of the 20' sides, but the shed is more for storage of shovels/rakes/mower than for any of my stuff. The greenhouse will have double doors that open outwards to a patio seating area.

Meanwhile, I'm starting a ton of veggies, flowers and herbs that need to go.... somewhere.

I hope for the best in your grand project! I put in a camelia sinensis three years ago here in the Piedmont of NC. It is steadily growing, but still not big enough to harvest.
