My daughter just called, as driving kid(s) home from school, daughter 'kvelling' that 2d grade grandson was reading 'so well' to her, 'because' of all those books 'Ellie' (that's ME) gives as gifts.

HAPPY my 'cheap' 2d hand gifts make a difference!

I recently sent birthday gifts to my 'other' grandson, out of state, and HOPE I'll find Casey at the Bat to give to my nearby grandson so he can read that to me and his mother!

1. My parents always read to me, both mom and dad

And my husband and I always read to our boys when they were small, they loved it. I feel sorry for children that have no one to read to them. All my kids could read when they entered kindergarten. I used to volunteer-read to kids at the elementary school.

My dad used to do this thing where he’d substitute a silly word for a word in the text and see if we noticed (my sister and I always called him out, we’d howl with laughter sometimes). Ah, that was so long ago.

2. My kindergarten granddaughter eats off of picture map placemats at our house.

Grandma took granddaughter to a bookstore coffee shop which had a very large world map on the wall. Granddaughter studied the map and asked to the amusement of everyone within earshot;

'Where is the northpole?'

Would love to find picture map placemats, as gifts for them.

In the meantime, granddaughter took a day off from kg, [upset tummy?], and came here. Was watching 'Odd Squad' ,in which they used map coordinates to solve their problem of the episode. Sure enough gdaughter goes to table and uses coordinates to track Virginia, and Florida [where other gparents live].
