Apologies for posting in this group but it seemed like the most applicable location.

An American (or Canadian?) couple is documenting the journey of their now 5 year old son Sebastian who has a high functioning form of autism and has been diagnosed with hyperlexia, echolalia, eidetic memory and possibly other conditions.

To say Sebastian is a remarkable child is an understatement. He knew the Russian alphabet at 18 months. He could read and write at/by 2 years of age. He knows the periodic table of elements including their symbols and atomic weights. He knows pretty much every country’s flag and some facts/details about them. He loves to write and can almost flawlessly recreate by hand pretty much every font he can see and use from MS Word. His father said he has an IQ of 147 but I suspect that may be low.

His parents said he does suffer mildly from some of the negative aspects of autism such as stimming and his social skills are still improving.

His parents have posted several dozen videos of his life so far and you can’t help but appreciate how much they love their son and are doing their best to encourage and raise him. He has a sister who is a few years older than he is but I’m guessing she is not autistic like he is.

I watch his videos and I am simply amazed by his abilities. I do worry how schooling will go for him given how advanced he is from an intellectual level and his massive consumption of knowledge. His parents provide frequent comments on various matters and questions to give some additional insight beyond what you see in the videos.

I am by no means an expert in parenting or autism so please correct me if I have misspoken or if I am mistaken on anything. I simply find these videos to be exceptionally fascinating and in many cases uplifting.
