was attacked and stung by a group of bees on tuesday morning. I let her out for her morning ritual while getting ready for work and next thing you know I hear yelping in the back yard!

I ran to her and saw that there were many bees flying around her hind legs. I brushed her off and hurried her inside on kitchen counter only to remove 5 stingers from her coat. In a matter of 15 minutes her face started to swell. She looked like a prized fighter after a boxing match!

I ran her like a mad women to the vet and by the time I arrived her eyes where like tiny slits, they had to trach her to help her breath and administered an EPI pen and a cortizone shot!

Three hours later, after a lidocane wipe down, benadryl shots and pain meds she was safe to go home. I was to watch her all day. I called into work and hung out with my sweet pea on the couch all day long where she snored and drooled on her favorite blankie.

Today she looks normal, finally! The swelling went down and she is back to being the diva she always is.

Just a public service to watch for bee's and your furkids. My husband saw the nest and we had it relocated today to a better spot way far from our back yard area.

I am greatful she is okay!

1. Oh poor puppy, am so glad she is ok

Mine got into a yellow jacket nest last yr too. I noticed her biting at herself so swatted what I could see as I dragged her into the bathroom and into a tub of cold water and baking soda. Benddryl stuffed down her throat and she was quite unhappy with me but ok.

If she reacted that badly, is she allergic or just got stung a lot? Can you get an allergy kit from your vet, like people have? Best wishes to her and you, what a scary thing.

2. It was quite scary!

Only later after the examination from the vet did they surmise that she may have been stung up to twelve times!

I'm not sure if she is allergic, but the vet says she most likely would have died from that many bites.

I am glad to hear that she is ok, but that must have been a horrible few days for you, and for her.

I don't know if this helps with dogs, but I lived with a guy who was really allergic to bees, and when he got bit, he would eat a big spoonful of sugar right away, then get to the hospital.....I guess that the sugar helped to keep the swelling from progressing too quickly. I don't understand what it did, or why it helped, but he knew to do it from prior experiences.

Glad that she is fine now and the bees are gone.

8. It was so awful..

Thank you for your kind words. I really thought we were gonna lose her!

I tried to get a benadryl down her right when it happened but she was so freaked out and in pain she wouldn't let me. She spit two of them out before I threw her and the car and sped off.

Sugar is interesting though, I wonder if I was calmer I would have been able to get her something down. UGH!

That was a really bad emergency, and you did the right thing. Just as well you got her to the vet instead of trying to get more pills in her. You done good.

for poisoning is salt. Force a dog to swallow enough and he'll throw up.

I really don't know if the sugar would work, or why. I just know that this is what he did on 2 different occasions when he was stung. He probably should have had an epi-pen instead, since he would start to swell immediately and his throat would start to close. But then again, he was an idiot.

11. Glad she's OK. I always have benadryl on hand for allergic reactions. One of my dogs

is allergic to insect bites like spiders.

19. Every dog parent needs BENADRYL in their bag of tricks!!!

It can save a dogs life on the way to the vet. If you live far from the Vets ask them to give you some Prednisone as well. The Preds will keep the swelling down. This can keep them breathing on the way to the doctor.

If you are not sure of the dosage ask your Vet about the Benadryl for each of your pets!!!!

20. After this mess

I bought some liquid benadryl! the vet said it may be easier to get liquid down than a pill in an emergency situation.

Good idea on the pred too. She goes for a follow up tomorrow, I'll ask her about that!
