Related: About this forumFlea treatment for indoor cats
My cats in the past have been indoor/outdoor because they were rescued ferals,, but the ones I'm adopting have been indoor only, so I'm going to keep them that way. Do I have to worry about flea treatments once I have them home? They've been getting Capstar at the shelter.

(20,646 posts)Not just for fleas, but in an apartment in Houston, you either have roaches bad, or not so bad, but you WILL have roaches.

(1,045 posts)But - does kitty sit by a screen door or in a screened lower floor window that is open? Are fleas a big problem in the yard or other area around the house? Fleas will seek out what they need in many devious ways - even coming into the house on your shoes and clothing if there are fleas in the yard. Coming into house via window screens or on the humans is the only way we could figure out how one of our cats began hosting the d*** things because she never went outside. Never. The area were we lived was heavily infested. Ugh! No longer have cats and the dog is on a monthly pill just in case. No fleas in 12 years!

(14,815 posts)We have both indoor and outdoor cats, but no indoor/outdoor cats. None of them have ever had fleas. Our kitties range from 2 to 19 years old and are raw fed.
I'd say no, you don't need to worry about your indoor cats unless you actually see fleas on them.
