We had to have one of our dogs hind legs removed due to cancer before it could spread. We have no idea what to do and we are getting angry at each other pretty badly over this since we are all conflicted on this now. We regret we did this because now we feel he is in pain and this was inhumane to do. But if we didn't the cancer would have spread. I'm a wreck. I don't know what to do.

(136,386 posts)Have seen numerous instances of animals with various devices, to give them mobility, so after recovery from surgery, I suspect you can find suitable devices.

(775 posts)My dog has serious health problems, and when we went to a different Vet (because emergency) we found out
that better pain medicine (a synthetic opioid) helped so much.
It should just be for a short time.

(53,060 posts)He didn't seem to mind much. He went up 17 stairs to my bedroom the day he came home from surgery. He only fell when he attempted to heist his right back leg .
Vet said most owners go through more mental pain than the dogs. He lived another 5 years to age 15.
