This was a big chunk of my day yesterday down here in SW Florida.

First off, I spent the morning doing last minute prep for the storm. Then at 1:00 pm things got interesting. This is what I just posted a few minutes ago on Next Door with a few edits from that post.

I do not even know how to begin as I do not know what eventually happened in the end. I spent 6 hours yesterday on a rescue cat. We received a call from one of our friends who told us that someone posted on Next Door was seeking our assistance. I went to the woman's home, and when I saw what bad shape the cat was in, I called Liz (my spouse) and she began to make calls. The Naples Humane Society said they were open until 2:00 and I managed to get there at about 2:03. I was told that they could not take a stray and was turned away.
By the time I drove back to VW, Liz had called our resourceful leader at HEAL. She managed to get us into Colonial Animal Hospital for assessment. I arrived there about 3:30. They scanned the cat and it was chipped. They then took him in to be x-rayed for injuries.
One tech traced the chip and it turns out that the cat came from Naples Humane Society and the only contact for the owner was by email. They emailed the person registered and lo and behold they responded. They said they were going to drive up to make sure it was their cat.
They arrive about 5:30 and we waited together to get the diagnosis.
It turns out that the cat was indeed the cat that escaped out of the owner's home and had been reported lost last month.
The vet came out and we were told that there were no injuries and that the cat was so emaciated it could not even stand. Possible neurological damage due to malnutrition and near starvation.
At that point the decision as to what would happen with the cat was between the vet and the owner. They both thanked me and I was asked to leave to allow them to have a private discussion. Wanting to get home I left, not waiting to find out what was decided.
I do not know what final decision was made, but that information would be up to the owner to disclose here on ND.

It was a long day. I will try to find out what the final outcome was. Hopefully the poor thing was not euthanized and that the cat would be nursed back too health.

Its the kind of asshole I'd kick the teeth out of.

The had cat escaped month earlier. The owner had put up fliers and posted on Next Door. Fortunately the cat was not euthanized and the owner is presently nursing the cat back to health.
