Related: About this forumMy darling Penelope passed last month
Penelope had nasal lymphoma and rallied briefly with a course of steroids. When she began eating and drinking less and less with each passing day, I knew I'd have to let her go. My vet and her assistant were angels of mercy.
She was a year old when I got her, and her just-weened daughter Calliope, from a rescue shelter. She was with us for 14 years. I'm heartbroken. I think Calliope is grieving as well. We still have each other.
I sometimes look to find her in her usual haunts. Shortly after she died I thought I saw her shadow and felt her brush by me to get to her feeding bowl. She came to me in a dream last Thursday night. She jumped on my lap and was purring. I could feel her warmth and soft fur. I held her close until she struggled. Then she was gone.
It's taken more than a month to finally post this tribute. I just couldn't do it; couldn't find the strength or the words.
I love and miss you, Penelope.
The final photo is of her grave in my flower bed. I planted crocus bulbs in the mound and they'll bloom in the early spring--if the squirrels don't get them first.
Thanks for taking a moment to view this.

It's hard to understand how they come to be so much for us. They just do.

(6,675 posts)cat named Tonto. The first night we had him,(he was 6yrsold) he cuddled up to comfort my daughter's back which is malformed from scoliosis. And he played with her to make her laugh. I feel he is in heaven on the right hand of Jesus to reward him. He was given up because his owners thought he would hurt their future baby. He never hurt a fly or a bird.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful Penelope. Clearly she loves, and is loved. She will be there for you when you need extra comfort.
A truly worthy resting place.

I lost my wonderful 17-year-old Milo during the summer of 2020 to the same disease, only a month after my other wonderful cat Jeoffry died suddenly of a stroke. Both of them continued to manifest out of the corner of my eye sometimes, usually in the evening, and I still hear their footsteps once in awhile. Your beautiful Penelope is still with you, too, in some way.

(3,575 posts)carving appears to be watching over her; did you create it?
She looks like such an angel in those photos. Penelope reminds me of my Mr. Ziggy Piggles who crossed over more than seven years ago. I will always be eternally grateful that out of all the wonderful cats in the world, I had THE one who was absolutely perfect for me, from our first day together to our last.
Sending you and Calliope hugs from Stanley, Sophia and Me, their humble guardian.

(217 posts)I can see how Penelope's spirit is still with you. What a gift you were to each other and still with Calliope, too. Sorry for the delayed response. I only came across your "Stop and smell the geraniums" a few moments ago. Both are gorgeous creatures.
