Anyone have experience with CBD oil as a calming agent for kitty?

My dear elder Kitty can't groom her bum any more. And there's matted hair and so on. I can not take her to a veterinarian -- she was horribly traumatized by last visit. And I can't find a mobile groomer for cats.

She is a freaker .. LOL .. and a biter, and very sensitive about the area.

And so I will have to do this myself. I have Rescue Remedy and Feliway. Today I asked for advice at the pet store and was sold some CBD oil.

Does anyone have experience using CBD oil as a calming agent? For cats?

1. It works great.

I use it on my part time cat when he is too anxious or has wounds that need healing.

You can put it in her food, if that isn't acceptable, put some on her fur and she'll lick it off. It only takes a couple drops to calm them down*, a little more will ease them into a nice, relaxed sleep for a couple hours. It wears off and doesn't hurt them but does calm them and promote healing of skin tissue, maybe more.

*Depending on potency which you should check when you buy it. The stronger it is, the less you need to use.

2. Yes. Cat & dog.

Dog has noise aversion & during firecracker season we probably go thorough an entire bottle. Kitty, who came from an abusive situation, sometimes gets spooked, not sure over what, but you can tell she's tense & on edge. She paces & won't settle down & looks around anxiously, like something might get her. The hardest part is finding a way to deliver it to kitty, as it has a distinctive flavor. Strong flavored fish cat food has worked for us.

Buy from a reputable source, not Amazon. Not sure if this is still the case, but it used to be that Amazon wouldn't sell full spectrum products, leaving out the compound that actually reduces stress & alleviates pain.

5. My vet prescribed Gabapentin for our fractious kitty to calm her prior

to office visits. It worked beautifully. They also said I could use it to calm my long-haired cat prior to grooming so she would tolerate it. Haven't tried it yet as she won't be due for grooming probably next spring when her winter coat starts coming out. In the past, I have been able to use a slicker brush on her for the most part, but she really needs to have her tummy and pantaloons done, too.

If your kitty is a freaker, she may remain the same, minus the pain.

9. So I gave her three drops two nights ago to calm her itching and biting at matts.

And then I went to bed.

Tonight, I picked up the bottle -- in her view -- and she looked at it and ran like a banshee under the couch.
