Related: About this forumI just realized I wasn't given any dietary restrictions for Arthur, before tomorrow's vet visit
I'm thinking what the vet will do is more of a procedure than a surgery. Regardless, I'm not leaving any food out, tonight. I'll put out some kibble after I get Arthur into the carrier.
Fingers crossed this is the only non routine vet visit for the rest of 2023.

(106,367 posts)described, so what you plan is quite appropriate. No food late tonight and overnight and no breakfast prior to your appointment.
I suspect Arthur has had a partial rectal prolapse and the veterinarian will want to treat the area for swelling and reinsert, then place a little circular (purse-string) suture temporarily to allow it to heal. I'm sure Arthur will do just fine. to you both.

The good thing is, if I have to leave him for a while, I'm only about a 5 minute drive from the office.

(27,291 posts)I've been so sleep deprived, apparently I didn't screw it on tight. Madoc is the king of taking advantage of that. I'm so ANGRY at myself, right now.
I'm taking him in, regardless, just in case it won't be a problem. I live just a little over a mile from the clinic so if they say to bring him back tomorrow, that's fine.
It dawned on me that they did say to bring him in at any time, today, so that leads me to believe it will be OK. But, again, if need be, we'll go back tomorrow and tonight I will lock the kibble jar in the pantry.
