Related: About this forumThe good new is, Arthur didn't need stitches
The vet did another close look and said it's just swelling of the anus, not a prolapse. He is a little puzzled but agreed it could be an allergy so no more seafood. So I'll keep him on the antibiotics and he added an oral Steroid. I'll take him back on Thursday, or sooner if it starts to get worse.
Arthur is most unhappy with me, right now but I'll give him his medicines and then some tasty pate. Then some treats. Then lots of snuggles.

(35,686 posts)He was with me on the couch last night the lights werent reallyon, watching TV, he got up started licking himself on the floor. Then when I turned on the lights I noticed there was a bloody spot on the carpet. Dont know where it came from. He seems OK otherwise Ive been watching him havent seen any more. I have no idea what it could be. I really dont need this with my own CT scan coming up. Any ideas?

(27,291 posts)I've done SO much poop and butt hole inspecting, over the past couple of weeks. The vet was impressed I was able to get a fresh stool sample.
Also, maybe check his paws? But definitely check the litter box and do some tail lifting.

(27,291 posts)I'm so sleep deprived, right now. I've got an appointment with my therapist, tomorrow. Somehow I doubt he will want to focus on my worries about Arthur's butt.

(59,618 posts)Ty for the update!
I'll bet he isn't happy, but he will be better in no time & free of the collar.

(27,291 posts)I was able to give him his antibiotics. I'll give him the Steroid this afternoon. He just gets that once a day. I've gotten really good at giving him oral medications. Or, maybe he's just given up fighting me off.
I'll stay worried until the swelling subsides. So, back to constant butt hole checks. I live such a glamorous life.

(59,618 posts)I can just hear him, "Moooooom!" (Said indignantly, of course!)
Glad you're good at it & that he is cooperative. No way here with my senior girl. I always opt fof a shot of whatever for that reason.
Hugs to young King Arthur & you! (Maybe play Sword & the Stone movie to amuse him today? )

(27,291 posts)And the Spell would probably involve putting ME in a collar!!

(59,618 posts)No worries, you're safe as the royal upright can opener.
Did vet guestimate how much longer Arthur will need to be sporting his royal blue neck piece?

(27,291 posts)Licking that tissue with his rough little tongue will just cause irritation. If this goes like the last time, the swelling should pretty much resolve in the next couple of days.

(59,618 posts)With steroids, hopefully will be very soon!
Oh, gosh, that would be like substituting toilet paper for sandpaper.
Glad I'm not a cat.
Continued healing vives to you & Arthur!

(24,408 posts)I'm wondering about something else. Steroid medicines can have an effect on people's behavior. Did the vet mention anything like that about cats?

(27,291 posts)I haven't given him his first dose, yet. I thought I'd let him settle down, which he has.
I also managed to find and patch the hole in the inflatable bladder for the comfort collar. No doubt Gryff of Madoc put a claw through it when they helped him escape it, Saturday night. When I realized it was deflating, I stuffed the outer shell with plastic grocery bags, which seems to be working. Now I'm waiting to see if the patch works. Hopefully he will be able to go collar free in a couple of days.

(24,408 posts)a "conversation" scenario about Madoc and Gryff planning to free Arthur from his collar, with Carys acting as lookout.
Little did I know.
Unless maybe Arthur punctured the collar with his own claws.

(27,291 posts)He's such a sweet boy, it breaks my heart to see him so unhappy.
I have noticed a bit of hiney improvement. I hope that removing seafood will be the solution.
