Related: About this forumI wish to report that my porch cat, Mr. Cat, is doing splendidly despite the weather.
He even looks a bit porky.

(232 posts)He looks like he's the kind of cat that squirrels fear and respect when he's on the job.

(33,643 posts)I think Tabby's might get along as outside cats better than a lot of other breeds, because basically they look like little tigers, a design pattern honed by millions of years of evolution.
From left to right, these are Blue, Brave, Mama, and Three.
Blue, Brave and Three:
Blue (who is male), bit more recent:
Brave when s/he (I think it's a she) was real little. I named her that cause she was less skittish than the other two.

(120,883 posts)Tabby is the original pattern of the ur-cat, the African wildcat (Felis sylvestris lybica) from which our little beasts are descended. It isn't especially adaptive in my cold, snowy climate, at least in the winter, but Mr. C. is well-furred and well-padded.

(33,643 posts)These ones all seem to be doing well, Mama has seemingly bantered off, perhaps decided the little ones need to make their own lives so she's making herself scarce. Think the 3 of her babies are about 6 months by now. Not that I never see Mama, but she used to be on the wall every single AM looking for snax, now it's like once a week I see her in my yard, but she just bails now. It's trippy. Kids still come round, esp. Blue and Brave. Three has always been scarce, not sure why. That's why I picked that name

(35,686 posts)He is a gray tabby and knows how to be invisible. Practically impossible to see at night. Thats probably part of their natural protection

(3,575 posts)in an empty house where he was hired to install a new furnace. He adopted her and showered her with love. Three weeks later she surprised and rewarded him with three kittens. He has a large home, so decided to keep the family together. He got them all fixed and immunized, and they are one big happy family now.
