he has 3 big incisions, 2 on his side, but 1 right in the middle of his chest. he doesnt want to lay down.
i got up to pee, and puppy had to go, so sent her and radar outside. biff sat up on the bed, but didnt make a move to go out. it would be unusual for him.
the other 2 came back in, settled in, but biff just sat up, and wouldnt lay down. i thought maybe he did want to, so i sent him out. came back in, still didnt want to lay down. wont even down on command.
light went on- hes hurting. he has pain meds. but i gave him some ibuprofen.
poor old man.

he finally settled in about an hour after the post. i appreciate the warning about ibuprofen. i did not know that, tho i think the warnings are pretty overblown. ive given it to dogs in the past, on vet advise, but from very long ago. hes certainly fine now.
they sent him rimadyl. after he gets his dose this am, if it doesnt seem to be knocking it out, ill talk to the vet.
it just sorta shocked me to see a bully dog actually showing pain. rare thing that, and quite distressing at 3 am.

(106,399 posts)Please do not give more. Effects are dose-related so just don't give more. NSAIDs for dogs are not the same as those used in humans. I'm sorry I have not seen or followed any earlier posts but surely your vet gave some specific pain meds. You should contact them for additional medication if they are not working--perhaps some mild anxiety medication like trazodone or a centrally acting pain med that can be used with NSAIDs like gabapentin.
I know how hard it can be to see your best bud in pain. Best wishes and do contact your veterinarian immediately in the morning. If in doubt, please call the local veterinary emergency clinic before giving anything else.

(222,539 posts)There must be an emergency vet clinic she can call - though I'm not sure if he has pain meds from the vet why those weren't given instead. I'm just hoping that the pup is okay.

(8,444 posts)I feel for you and for him. And I hate to alarm you with that article, but I would hate even more for him to not get any treatment he might need.

(420 posts)I had to put down my sheltie for his sake, not mine. Ripped me apart. I couldn't watch him deteriorate.... for who ? me ? his protector and alpha ?

(71,842 posts)i start to grieve a little w the 1st grey hairs.
hes not the 1st dog to have old dog lumps, and hes the 2nd to have them not be benign.
1 of the lumps i wanted taken off cuz it is a reminder every day that the end is out there. wed tested it before, and it was benign. good thing i did, tho.
they are usually slow growing, and at 11, unlikely to impact his life span. he had 1 when he was younger. hopefully no more, but

(59,647 posts)Glad he settled in. Poor pupper.
Pls talk to vet before giving him any meds as who knows how long ibuprofen might linger in his system. Especially true for those of us who are advanced age.
