and it was treated after she had to move into a nursing home. The foster parents treated it but it was too late. I cried and cried when the poor thing screamed out in pain constantly and it broke my heart. I wish my grandmom wasn't slipping into dementia and had helped it sooner.

My Samoyed, Crissy, had Cushings and diabetes. She was treated for both, including 2 insulin shots a day, for over 5 years. She was a big dog and lived to be over 13.

We kept him going for almost 5 years with Vetoryl and many trips to the vet.

His belly was swollen, but it didn't bother him until the very end (when there were other bad things going on with him). He was 10 years old when we had to say goodbye.

I think that you can keep your dog for quite a long time. Speak to your vet and do some research on the disease. Best of luck. We try to do the best we can for our little pals.

And I differed with the vet on what should be prescribed. He wanted to go with Lysodren which, from what I read, had very harsh side effects. I insisted on Anipryl which, from what I read, worked more slowly but was gentler on the dog. So that's what we went with and from what my vet said about his experiences, that was the right decision. The meds may have changed, but that was my experience. Wishing you and your pup the best, I've been there. BTW, my dog was a senior cocker spaniel.
