Related: About this forumNow the kidcats are REALLY out of control!
I was bringing my sewing machine downstairs when I heard a weird thud. The kidcats had knocked over a heavy wrought iron stand that contained a glass bowl. Because it fell on carpet I didn't hear the glass bowl SHATTERING. EVERYWHERE.
In the past, this would have triggered a BIG explosion of temper. Now I just sigh and take care of the matter because the kidcats, even at their most mischievous, are far more precious than any material thing.
After taking a DEEP breath I put on shoes and picked up as much of the glass as I could (it was a BIG bowl) and then did a really good vacuuming of the area, and beyond because I don't want them getting their paws cut. Or my feet.
BUT now my hands are shaking so hard I can't thread the needle in the sewing machine! So I guess that can wait. Meanwhile I'll drink a glass of chardonnay and thaw some chicken for a nice stir fry. And scritch the kidcats. Unconditional love is a powerful force.

(7,458 posts)nothing but nothing was sacred but them. They bring more joy into my life than anything material ever could. Happily, they are a little older now so chaos is less inevitable. 😝😉

(24,408 posts)Ember was the most active, mischievous trouble making kitten I had ever seen. Into everything. More energy than the Energizer Bunny. Constantly knocking things to the floor and breaking them - cups, glasses, plates, lamps, a glass lamp shade, refrigerator magnets and their notes, etc. She was an expert at hiding nearby to snatch food off of the counter when I was cooking. Buried her face into a bowl of flour when I was making muffins (and sneezed, of course).
But she's 7 now and no longer snatches food or supervises its preparation. Still knocks things to the floor, but focuses more on books and papers now and leaves the cups and glasses alone. Buries her head in shopping bags when I come home to see what's in them, but only occasionally snatches things to run off with.

(113,130 posts)when nights are punctuated by thunder-thunder-thunder-CRASH! and you wonder what else they've managed to destroy.
It's when you put everything breakable behind latched doors and sigh about the good old days when you could put things like art glass and ceramics on display where you could admire them.
And no, the smashups never go away completely, they just get a little less frequent as time goes on.

(3,810 posts)Yes, indeed my pets are very much like having small children in the house. They must have been whirling and crackling with mischief, to topple an iron table. You got a workout today.
Says kidkats we want mom to be healthy and fit, she can do this special fitness session right here at home.
You need a break now. Sit down and envision peace.

(4,510 posts)I just inherited my deceased mom's 14 year old calico, Jazzy. My house is now catproofed. lol. Your situation is compounded, though. Yours are young kitties. Mine doesn't jump as high as she used to. Arthritis in her hips.
Enjoy your wine. Keep plenty on hand.
