They are so young, being with their mom is the best option. I have no idea why she didn't try to save them when they got caught in that rain, or why she only took 2 into the shelter and ignored the other 2.

At least there won't be any 2am feedings. For now, anyway.

The indoor kidcats just seem to have accepted that tiny versions of them will appear, from time to time. Sometimes one stays. Given what I went through with Tudor, I feel a special bond with him and I'm trying to rationalize bringing another fur baby into the house.

After 3, it’s like, “Hey, what’s one more?”

I can completely understand the temptation, and am pretty sure I would give into it if it were me.

They could get out, easy enough, well, fall out, but because I raised the shelter to help protect it from pooling water, they couldn't get back inside. They have been inspecting this new renovation. Wait until they see the roof extension. It should help to prevent water from splashing or blowing in to the shelter.

They love to run around and explore in that garden. I'd love to put up a fence with a cat door that's placed too high for kittens to use. That would relieve me of some worry about them wandering out, at night, and something happening to them.

I read the link and thought there was some bit of news that TFG and his co conspirators are somehow hunkered down and not coming out. Always a nice surprise to click the post and see kittehs. I have two of my own. Keep the cat posts coming. LOVE them.

I'll never know why the kittens mom behaved the way she did, but it almost killed all of them. She seems to have gotten her act together. Well, following that stern lecture I gave her.

I wondered if this mom might choose to reject Tudor because he is so small, looks so fragile, and might not survive. There would be more milk for the stronger girls. Obviously she doesn't know him quite as well as I do.

Well, not of Tudor. That was horrifying. But the girls were soaked and mud coated but I couldn't do much for them because Tudor needed so much more help than being dried off. I blotted them and made sure they had a warm place to snuggle until I felt semi confident that Tudor would survive.

And getting a feral cat to even somewhat trust you is a most wonderful feeling. They really do give me me so much more than I give to them.

I did one last check on the kittens. Bronwyn and Tegan came bumbling out when they heard me. I had to distract the mom with some wet food so I could lift the top off of the shelter to reassure myself Tudor was OK. He was cuddled up with Rhian, sleeping soundly.

Then I noticed that the mom had surrendered the food bowl to the other 2 kittens, and then licked Bronwyn's face, probably to clean it. That made me feel pretty confident that the mom is back on track with all 4 kittens, but I will not let down my guard. Especially with tomorrow's rainy/stormy forecast.
