She must be ecstatic to be home.

One of my cats was a stray that showed up last year, rail thin and desperate. When I brought him to the vet, they discovered he'd been microchipped. Of course, I contacted the owner, and it turned out he'd been missing for three months! They came and picked him up--they live on my street, just past where I'd stopped asking people if they knew this cat--but he showed up at my house again the next day. And the next. And the next. After two weeks, they asked me if I would just keep him.

I was worried that he might have liver or kidney damage from being dehydrated and from losing so much weight so fast, but he's doing great.

Once, my indoor panther got outside and was missing for eleven days before she came home. This is a diva kitty that has never even killed a moth before, so I was pretty sure she was a goner. I have no idea where she was or what she did. Don't you wish they could talk?

That’s wonderful! I had a cat go missing for several months and I looked and looked. Even got my son helping me look and nothing. Weeks passed then months and one day during a loud rainstorm I looked at the patio door and told my hubby that Sissy (his litter mate and same colors)wanted in and then I saw her INSIDE and I screamed and ran for the door. He was HUNGRY but otherwise fine. I really think the granddaughter of one of the neighbors had him. Never asked them because they were the neighborhood agitators ( seriously killing each other).

We knew where was…hiding from us, afraid. Very feral when we first had him and was reverting. We feared we would never catch him…in the end we did.

There was a site called missingpetpartnership, that helped us understand how and where to look that was key. Unfortunately the site is no longer available, but basically this is what they said, so for those of you who may still be looking for your cat I hope this helps

1. Your cat is usually very close by, unlike dogs they don’t run, they hide close by. They may desperately want back in, but don’t know how to or where to go.
2. Put their liter box outside where they can smell it- sheltered from weather. Helps them re-establish their connection
3. Of course leave food
4. Leave a favorite blanket that the two of you shared close to the door they got out of
5. If they come around, but are afraid, returning to a feral state, when you see them sit down quietly at a distance and most importantly do not make eye contact…keep your head down and wait. Let them approach you, but again don’t make eye contact
6. By all means consider a live trap

There’s a good book called Lost Cat: a true story of love, desperation, and GPS technology, by Caroline Paul. The author’s cat kept going missing for long periods of time, turns out he was out living in several different homes and even in a feral cat colony! For creatures who seem to largely disdain the world around them, cats are super social.

I’m so glad your kitty returned! There are few things more heartbreaking than when a pet goes missing. I love happy endings!

Link to book on the author’s website, if you’re interested: https://www.carolinepaul.com/lost-cat

Our kitty Jack disappeared for a long, hot weekend once. Came home skinny, dehydrated, and crying. We theorized that he may have been trapped in a neighbor's shed in 90-degree plus temperatures. I rushed him to the vet, where he was determined to have a UTI and was given fluids and an antibiotic and released later that day.

My Josie and Meggie are meowing songs of rejoicing for you!

Whew…..it’s such a relief! One of my beloved kitties disappeared several years ago, and like you, we searched and hung flyers and desperately tried to find her. She was gone several days and then THERE SHE WAS at our back door! Oh the jubilation was amazing! Once we got her inside and got on the floor with her, we noticed a “musky” odor…..like an old garage smell, if you can imagine. Clearly, she had wandered into a shed or something and had been locked inside. She was a little thin, but other than that, she was her wonderful self. All that said……YAY!!!
