I'm a kitty mom again! *Updated with pics*

Last edited Wed Oct 4, 2023, 04:38 PM - Edit history (2)

I also just adopted two older kittens (10 months, and 1 year) after my two senior kitties passed last year within 6 months of each other.

They were obtained from Craigslist, not free, but a small "rehoming fee". They weren't advertised as such, but it was obvious to me that they were both Scottish Folds (one a Straight), and I was instantly in love with their cute faces, and practically ran to get them! However, I also knew that Folds have probably have some significant health/pain issues with their cartilage, so would need insurance, so I started researching.

I went to the Scottish Fold subReddit, and was referred to the pet insurance, Fetch, which was among several. There's a two week waiting period, and they would need a vet checkup, which I've finished. Haven't used the insurance yet, but others reported good reviews about them. No upfront costs either.

I figured the kittens I got were bonded, but not the case. Actually, they were both intact, something I was NOT looking for. My feeling is that the person I got them from was trying to breed them, so I had the male fixed within a week, ASAP. Unfortunately, the female appears to be pregnant, so I will have a litter in about a month. Vet wouldn't vaccinate due to that reason. As the female is the Straight, male a Fold, the kittens should be
OK. The problem comes when two Folds are bred together.

Pics soon!

Please do keep us updated with their progress. I love reading happy stories like yours. It's a much, much needed respite from any bad news and political hubbub posts.

You are a wise parent, the pet insurance is a good idea and the sooner you get it, the better. My neighbor had a fold for 21 years with no health problems and he was a real sweetheart. Hope you have a similar experience.

Tater is very much a love bug, but Maggie May is more reserved. She's gentle but wary. Maybe she'll become more friendly when she's had her kittens. I'm excited about them too, although unplanned. Tater doesn't have the most serious ear fold, which is better for their health.

Scottish Folds are actually quite hardy and healthy. They are descended from a barn cat in Scotland. I had a Foldie, Angus, in the late 1980s and he was my heart cat. He was with me for 19 years and I still miss him. Again, congrats! You'll have a blast with the kittens! And we want pics.

That's what I had named him originally, but the name Tater stuck, so...There will be pics when the kitts arrive. I've read that the original Fold was a white female.
